This is a wine blog established in May 2011. The principle is simple: I was bitten by the wine bug and have jumped down the rabbit hole of discovery with all bags packed.
My wine learning is an ongoing process and this is my forum to share my tips and clever wine learnings with whoever wants to learn with me.
It is Australian based, especially in wine tips, but also has things relevant to wine everywhere. My plan is to answer those questions about the subject which baffle most people, to give good cheat tips about wine and to answer some questions which aren’t in normal wine articles.
,,, in that vein, anyone with interest in knowing some handy things about the noble art of wine, please continue and bookmark this page,,,, wine experts and sommeliers would be better advised to move on to other sites.
Who am I? I’m a husband, a father of two boys, a wine professional and just a guy who really appreciates wine as a subject, and spends way too much time reading and learning about it. I only really became interested in all things wine as more than just a “red or white” question in my 5 years in Berlin, Germany after finishing University. I think I was taken by the areas that the subject of wine pushes into sociology, cultural studies, history, chemistry, agriculture, tourism, biology, hospitality, marketing, design, geography, geology, languages, commerce, finance and more.
You really can dig into so many aspects and keep digging.
I have fallen well down the rabbit hole of the wine bug and the more you know, the more you know nothing. But it is better than nothing.
I work in the wine industry for a quiet well-known winery in the Barossa Valley, specialising in Direct Sales and Marketing. I have a Diploma in Viticulture + Bachelor of Commerce/Arts and have worked in winemaking, viticulture, marketing, cellar doors and all things in between for some of the top producers in Australia. Personally, I have spent time learning to explore the wine regions of Australia, France, Italy, Germany, California, and Spain.
Who is this for?
The average wine consumer. You know a little bit, occasionally splash out on a nice bottle and wouldn’t mind knowing more about the subject to make things easier when faced with 3093940 wines in a shop. You think it’s good to get some clever insider tidbits to tell friends and have tried some good wines but don’t like the pretentious wine talk of the wine that comes with it. You also don’t really get why some wines cost $3 and others $300.
You can develop your knowledge together with me as we discover more through tastings, research, and wine experiences. I also give buying tips when faced with the specials catalogue of some big Aussie wine retailers.
