Back for my quick roundup of the First Choice specials from this week. As always this is just my opinion on what could be the best buys from this weeks specials:
Gold:
Vasse felix Chardonnay, Margaret River- $15.68
Go for it. Vasse felix used to retail these wines for $20, but the tough market has pressured their prices under $20. The quality of their wines has not come down. You can expect a well made peach and apple experience with some vanilla on top. Good price, great white as it should be.
Silver:
Black Chook shiraz, SA- $13.58
Dont let the animal gimmick thing put you off, this is a good buy. The winemaker, Ben Riggs, is known for his talent in producing quality SA fermented grape juice…and doesn’t cut corners with this lower priced show piece. A big perfumed ripe red that impresses at this price. Save about $2-3 off the normal price.
Bronze:
McGuigans black label range,- $6.21
Havent tried it, so only going by the reputation and name here, as these types of wines can’t afford to flunk out in this price category. Try the Cab Sauv for a big red, or Shiraz if you like your big red a little spicier. This is not a “must buy” rather a ” best bet” if your budget is under $10.
