Mitch’s Roundup: First Choice Liquor 23 June 2011

My tips for the specials from first choice liquor from the week starting 23 June 2011.

RED:

St Andrews Cab Merlot or Shiraz: $4.11- bargain, I think this is a 1st Choice home brand, but good value for the price. These wines are good to pick up in a six pack and keep in the cupboard for any occasion. I find they have a bit of the cheap wine sweet kick but very decent quality for such a low price. BUY

Glaetzer Wallace Shiraz 2009 Barossa Valley SA: $17.79

I am a big fan of the Glaetzer wines, expect this price to go down as it is beaten by Dan Murphys. Big, mean and good.

The Mehhh List: Redman Shiraz, Brookland Valley- good wines but just not great bargains.

WHITE:

Lindemans bin 65 chardonnay: $6.21 – good value from a consistent producer. This was one of the wines that led to the fact the world drinks so much chardonnay. Cheap and good.

Stoneleigh Sauv Blanc Marborough: $12.53 – respected producer so expect a nice sauv blanc, the variety that put NZ wine on the map. Why do people love sauv blanc so much? the most probable reason is that it is so distinctive, crisp and fruity with that grassy tropical aroma. You can pick this variety out of a crowd easily. Go for it.

The Mehh list: Te angu (whatever), seaview (get omni instead) and Mt Pleasant Elizabeth (on special for $2 cheaper at DMs…oops,,,and I dont really rate semillon anyway)

WINE OF THE WEEK: Get the GLAETZER WALLACE and tell your friends that the Ben and Colin Glaezter are barossa legends and Colins brother is head winemaker at the highly respected and show winning Wolf Blass
