Where to buy wine in Berlin?

Wine is available everywhere in Germany. Every supermarket, chemist, corner store sells the stuff. Heck, even the driving school in Friedrichshain doubled as a fine wine shop. But there is certainly a lot of bulk rubbish that is generally the source of non-wine people saying they don’t like the taste of it.

For some consistent value prices, good friendly service and a good selection of wines, there are 2 that I recommend:

1) Karstadt Perfetto Weinabteilung:

Yep in a big store, but this has a big range at great value. The big guy in there at Hermannplatz is good help and will generally have a few bottles open to try. You can find awesome wines from all over Europe especially in the €5-15 category

2) Mövenpick Weinkeller:

A chain of stores throughout Germany which is like a big fat toy store for wine people. Massive range of quality producers and the best priced place to find things in the €16+ category

But their big point is their tasting area: anything between 20 and 80 wines sitting open with a description and clean glasses and no haunting salesperson. This place is the ultimate “try before you buy” place.

One to avoid is Jacques. Never really had anything good to find about them at all.
